Great God, Good Friends, Good Times

I had the privilege to spend my weekend at a Women's Retreat at Camp of the Woods in Speculator, New York! All I can say is, WOW! God showed up in so many ways! I don't even know where to start!! Our speaker, Nancy Nelson, was amazing. She talked about Joy and what steals our joy...things like pre-occupation with things of the world (worry and and fear), unforgiveness, and self-pity. Joy is a gift that God wants to give us, but we have to choose it! Part of that choice means that we need to be obedient to God and abide in Him. Seeking to live a steady life...surrendered to God when life is good, sustained by God when life is hard. She asked us so many questions that are still swirling around in my head...Do I care more about making my life work than I care about God? Is there a place in my life where unforgiveness is robbing me of my joy? What does it mean to enjoy God? And here's something to chew on...did you ever think about how self pity makes us worship ourselves all day long...instead of worshipping God.

In addition to the amazing speaker, this weekend gave me a chance to get to know people that I see all the time at church, but haven't gotten to know very well. Did you know that we have ladies at our church who fly planes, run stop signs on purpose, fake leg injuries in order to get a handicap parking spot, run dental floss through their nose and out their mouth...women with a history of theft and a grandmother who stands on her head!

The leaves were at their peak color...absolutely beautiful...these pictures don't even to them justice.

I was able to spend lots of time with my friend, Miriam. She and I have been at NSBC our whole lives...we have crossed paths countless times...even served on the MOPS steering team together for a whole YEAR...and come to find out she has a third sister I never knew about!!! I clearly need to stop being so busy and get to know the amazing women, like Miriam, that God has placed in my life!

Well, its late now and I have work on the morning...but here are a few last pictures from the weekend...the super cool ladies of room 204, our exciting Friday evening game of Cranium, and our fun Sunday lunch companions!

It looks like you had a great time! It is so beautiful there in the fall. I wish I could have gone with you....I was at a wedding where a fun reception (with unlimited booze) was more important than the ceremony.
